In an attempt to bolster  energy efficiency and sustainability in Tripura, the Validation Workshop on the State Energy Efficiency Action Plan (SEEAP) was successfully conducted at Pragna Bhavan, Agartala. The workshop, a collaborative effort between Green Tea, Deloitte, and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, aimed to discuss and validate the State Energy Efficiency Action Plan in Tripura until 2030.

Power Secretary Abhishek Singh, serving as the chief guest, underscored the critical role of energy efficiency in the current scenario. Distinguished guests included D Radha Krishnan, Chairman of Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission, Debashish Sarkar, Managing Director of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), Saravjit Singh Dogra, Director Finance of TSECL, and Anil Khanna, Director Technical of Tripura Power Generation Limited (TPGL).

The workshop delved into the intricate details of the State Energy Efficiency Action Plan for Tripura, outlining a comprehensive roadmap for achieving energy efficiency across various sectors such as buildings, industry, agriculture, and transportation. Power Secretary Abhishek Singh and TSECL Managing Director Debashish Sarkar delivered comprehensive speeches on the Energy Efficiency Action Plan in Tripura, while officials from Green Tea and Deloitte provided insights into its technical aspects.

Swapan Debbarma, General Manager of TSECL, extended a warm welcome to the participants, and Sima Das of the State Designated Agency (SDA), BEE, expressed gratitude to Green Tea, Deloitte, and all stakeholders for their valuable contributions to the event.

Addressing the gathering, speakers highlighted the escalating energy demands in India, emphasizing India’s commitment to reducing emissions intensity and achieving a significant portion of electric power from non-fossil fuel-based sources by 2030. The increasing GDP growth in India, coupled with energy security challenges, underscores the crucial role of energy efficiency. Tripura’s growing economy, with a GSDP of INR 64,778 crore in FY22, showcased a remarkable 10.33% growth.

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Government of India, presented its strategic initiatives, including the national plan for energy efficiency outlined in the report “Unlocking National Energy Efficiency Potential – UNNATEE.” The preparation of State Energy Efficiency Action Plans (SEEAP) is pivotal in achieving the national target of reducing energy intensity by 45% by 2030. The recently developed “State Energy Efficiency Action Plan (SEEAP): Tripura” provides insights into the state’s energy consumption, efficiency potential, and short-term and long-term goals.

The report is anticipated to benefit policymakers, developmental agencies, consultants, and stakeholders, offering a roadmap for programmatic interventions to achieve India’s climate goals. Emphasis was placed on creating awareness about energy conservation practices and engaging with consumers, industries, and utilities to promote energy-efficient practices.

In concluding remarks, a representative stressed the importance of stakeholder engagement for the successful implementation of SEEAP. The Validation Workshop served as a crucial platform for sharing insights, fostering collaboration, and charting a path toward a more energy-efficient and sustainable future for Tripura. As the state continues its economic progress, integrating robust energy efficiency measures will play a pivotal role in balancing development and environmental responsibility.
