On Monday, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy addressed the House, revealing a concerning shortage of manpower in Tripura’s Home Department. According to Singha Roy, a staggering 6,791 posts under the Home Department remain unfilled, including 2,978 promotion cases.
The Finance Minister, responding to an admitted question raised by MLA Nayan Sarkar during the second day of the winter session, provided these alarming statistics in the absence of Home Minister and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
In a written reply to another admitted un-starred question from MLA Jitendra Chaudhury, the House was informed about the steps being taken to address the staffing issues. The statement disclosed that the process for filling up 218 vacant posts of Sub-Inspectors (Armed and Unarmed Branch) (Men & Women) through direct recruitment would be initiated post-amendment of the Recruitment Rules (RRs) for the position. The amendment of RRs is currently under consideration by the government.
Furthermore, the statement outlined the establishment of a Selection Committee tasked with filling up 1,000 vacant posts of Constables in the Tripura Police through direct recruitment, with 33 percent horizontal reservation for women candidates. The physical endurance test for this recruitment has already been completed, and the overall process is ongoing. Additionally, a proposal for filling up an additional 916 vacant posts of Constables (Men & Women) through direct recruitment is currently under consideration by the State Government. It’s important to note that the information provided excludes IPS & TPS officers.
