New Delhi/IBNS: In a setback for Mahua Moitra, the Delhi High Court on Thursday asked the Trinamool Congress (TMC) expelled Lok Sabha MP to move the Directorate of Estates to continue occupying the allotted government bungalow, media reports said.

The court has allowed Moitra to withdraw the petition.

The government will take steps to evict the petitioner, Times Now reported.

Moitra, who was the MP from West Bengals Krishnanagar constituency, pleaded in the court to set aside the December 11 order of Directorate of Estates or allow her to continue occupying the government bungalow till the declaration of the results of 2024 General Elections.

Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha on Friday over a report by the Ethics Committee on the cash for query charges against her.

The TMC leader is accused of taking bribes from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for asking questions that are critical of the Narendra Modi-led government in the Centre.

The Krishnanagar MP was even accused of surrendering log-in credentials to a confidential account on the parliamentary website which would enable Hiranandani to post questions directly.

She denied the bribery charges but admitted sharing login details.

Though Moitra had challenged the expulsion in the Supreme Court, the top court said it will first examine whether it has the jurisdiction to hear the case.

The next hearing will take place on March 11.
