Australian cricketer Mitchell Marsh was slammed by cricket fans from India after a photo captured the allrounder resting his feet on the World Cup trophy.

The photo went viral a day after Australia lifted the trophy for the sixth time outplaying favourite India in the final on November 19.

In his first response to the row, Marsh told SEN in Australia that he had no intention to disrespect.

He told SEN, There was obviously no disrespect meant in that photo at all. I havent given it too much thought, I havent seen a lot on social media even though everyone tells me its gone off. Theres nothing in that.

When he was asked whether he would do it again, the Australian cricketer responded saying, Yeah probably, to be honest.

A leader of an activist group in Uttar Pradesh, a north Indian state, had filed a complaint with police against Marsh for disrespecting the trophy, which India have won twice so far.

Meanwhile, several teammates of Marsh stayed back in India following the World Cup to play a bilateral T20I series with the runner-up team.

India and Australia are playing a five-match T20I series.
