In a recent political development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled former MLA Arun Chandra Bhowmik for a period of six years, citing his alleged involvement in ‘anti-party’ activities. Bhowmik, who was also an invited member of the State Committee, faced expulsion for violating party principles, values, and ideologies.
The decision followed Bhowmik’s visit to the Pradesh Congress headquarters in the capital city, during which he openly criticized the ruling BJP, accusing it of lacking discipline. A former member of the Congress and Trinamool Congress, Bhowmik had joined the BJP and won the 2018 assembly elections from Belonia. However, in the last assembly election, he was not given the party nomination, leading to his discontent.
