Around 79 per cent polling was recorded in the Tripura Village Committee elections under the TTAADC by 4 pm, with nearly 8,000 voters in queues receiving slips to cast their votes after the scheduled closing time.
Around 79 per cent polling was recorded in the Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) by 4 pm, according to the State Election Commission.
Speaking to the media, State Election Commissioner P.K. Chakraborty said polling was continuing at several polling stations even after the scheduled closing time as voters remained in queues. To ensure that eligible voters waiting at the polling stations could exercise their franchise, slips were issued to them.
Chakraborty said nearly 8,000 voters who were still standing in queues at polling stations at 4 pm were issued slips and allowed to cast their votes. He clarified that the final voter turnout would be known only after polling was completed at all concerned polling stations.
A total of 8,176 candidates were in the fray in the Village Committee elections, making the polls a significant electoral exercise across the TTAADC areas.
On the overall law-and-order situation, the State Election Commissioner said polling was conducted peacefully and fairly across the state. He said no major untoward incident was reported during the voting process.
However, an incident was reported outside a police station near Ohainbari SB School under Matabari Block in Gomati district. According to the State Election Commission, one person sustained serious injuries in the incident, while another person accompanying him suffered minor injuries. Both injured persons were shifted to Gomati District Hospital in the presence of the District Election Officer and the Superintendent of Police.
The State Election Commissioner also said that five complaints had been received in connection with the Village Committee elections. The complaints were related to areas including Srimangalpur Village Committee, Panbua Village Committee, Teliamura, Kalyanpur and Paharpur.
According to Chakraborty, the complaints were politically related. Reports have been sought from the respective District Election Officers and Returning Officers. Further decisions on the complaints will be taken after the reports are received and examined by the authorities.
Meanwhile, ballot boxes and other election materials have started reaching designated receiving centres from different polling stations following the conclusion of voting.

Chakraborty said the overall election picture would become clearer after representatives of the respective political parties submit the ballot boxes, ballot paper accounts and other statutory and non-statutory forms as required under the election process.

The ballot boxes will subsequently be kept under security in designated strongrooms. The final voter turnout and other election-related details are expected to emerge after the completion of the polling and submission of the required election documents.
