Government has said that 755 fast-track Special Courts including 410 exclusive POCSO courts are functional in 30 States and Union Territories across the country.
Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said this in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha today. He said, the government has been implementing a Centrally Sponsored Scheme for setting up of Fast Track Special Courts for expeditious trial and disposal of pending cases pertaining to the Rape and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, in a time-bound manner.
Mr Meghwal said, the Scheme was initially implemented for one year, which has now been extended till 31st March 2026, at an outlay of over one thousand 952 crore rupees. The Minister said, these special courts have disposed of over two lakh 53 thousand cases till date.
