In an initiative to strengthen the Public Distribution System (PDS), five new trucks were flagged-off in Agartala on Tuesday.

Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Sushanta Chowdhury flagged-off the new vehicles at the central store, A.D. Nagar in presence of Special Secretary Raval Hamendra Kumar, Director Nirmal Adhikary, Deputy Director Animesh Debbarma and chairman of Tripura Horticulture Corporation Jawhar Saha.

The five new trucks have been procured at an expenditure of Rs. 1.86 crore for an easy transportation of various ration items.

Speaking at the programme, Chowdhury said, various essential items including rice, dal, edible oil and sugar are presently being supplied to the consumers through over 2000 ration shops. He said, the new vehicles have been procured to strengthen the rationing system.

The Food minister also said, a plan is in the pipeline to increase the wage of the workers engaged in various stores.
