Border Security Force (BSF) claimed that 25 extremists associated with band outfit- NLFT had laid down arms and joined the mainstream of life in Tripura since 2017.An official release from BSF said that five insurgents had surrendered in 2017, 12 in 2018, three each in 2019 and 2020, and two insurgents in the current year including senior NLFT cadre Rana Bahadur Debbarma.
Self-styled captain in NLFT (BM) Outfit- Rana Bahadur Debbarma @ Roaja @Hemchang (51), resident of Bhaktomani Para (Lakshmichera) in Khowai district, surrendered before Inspector General of Tripura Frontier BSF- Susanta Kumar Nath and other senior officers at Salbagan campus on Tuesday.
He joined the NLFT (BM) in 1995 and he never met family since then. He didn’t even attend the last rituals of his mother in the Year 2006 and father in the Year 2012.
At the time of surrender, he had the opportunity to meet his younger brother and elder sister, after more than 25 years.
“BSF Tripura is making persistent counter insurgency endeavors independently as well as with active support of State Security Apparatus & Central Government Agencies against the ‘Indian Insurgent Groups’ active in the State. Resultantly, the active Cadres of such insurgent groups, particularly of ‘NLFT (BM) Outfit’ are becoming disillusioned from the insurgency activities and showing their intent to join the mainstream,” the release said.
The IG, Tripura Frontier of BSF feels that Ram Bahadur’s renunciation of violent insurgent activities and joining mainstream to live a happy and peaceful life would definitely encourage other Insurgents to follow his path. The BSF Tripura Frontier also appealed to the youths of the state, who are being allured by the false promises to join the insurgency even today, not to be misguided.
