Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said that the brief but dark period between 1975 to 1977 impacted every citizen’s life. Mr Singh said this while addressing a seminar organised under the banner of Samvidhan Hatya Diwas on Saturday at Delhi Assembly. Addressing the gathering, the minister said that during emergency fundamental rights were suspended, press freedom was muzzled under rigid censorship and thousands of people were detained without trial. He also noted that force sterilisation and mass demolitions were also carried out in the name of urban development.
A booklet titled emergency at 50 was also launched on the occasion.
