World Day Against Child Labour is being observed today globally. This day highlights the grave issue of child exploitation and mobilises efforts to eradicate it. The theme for this year is – “Progress is clear, but there’s more to do: let’s speed up efforts!”. This year’s theme reflects both the progress achieved and the urgency to intensify action to meet global targets.

International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) yesterday released a report titled “Child Labour: Global estimates 2024, trends and the road forward” which highlights that nearly 138 million children were engaged in child labour in 2024, including around 54 million in hazardous work likely to jeopardize their health, safety, or development. The latest data show a total reduction of over 22 million children since 2020, reversing an alarming spike between 2016 and 2020.
