The 11th International Day of Yoga is being commemorated at the iconic Independence Square in Sri Lanka. The event witnesses participation by over 1000 enthusiasts with over 100 instructors leading the Yoga practice. Several Senior Ministers of Sri Lankan Government including, Chrishantha Abeysena, Deputy Speaker Rizvie Salih, former cricketers, and industry members joined the event organised by the High Commission of India.
Events were also held at Galle, Kandy and Jaffna organised by the diplomatic offices in Sri Lanka. The High Commission of India in association with Sri Lanka’s Department of Ayurveda organised a record 117 programmes were held simultaneously at all Ayurveda establishments in Sri Lanka on 19th of June.
