A total of 10,164 nominations have been filed for the upcoming three-tier Panchayat polls in Tripura, scheduled for August 8. Asit Kumar Das, Secretary to the State Election Commission, announced this on Friday, noting that Thursday was the last day for filing nominations.
For the Gram Panchayats, 8,997 nominations were submitted. Among these, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) filed the highest number with 6,337 nominations. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) followed with 1,442 nominations, the Congress party with 810, and the Tipra Motha Party with 231 nominations.
In the Panchayat Samities, a total of 783 nominations were received. The BJP again led with 433 nominations, followed by CPM with 205, Congress with 112, and the Tipra Motha Party with 15 nominations.
For the Zilla Parishads, 384 nominations were filed. The BJP submitted 160 nominations, CPM 115, Congress 98, and the Tipra Motha Party filed 3 nominations.
The Panchayat polls will be conducted across 2,650 polling stations in the state. According to the final electoral rolls, there are a total of 12,94,153 registered voters, comprising 6,58,445 males, 6,35,697 females, and 11 others. These electors will have the opportunity to exercise their democratic rights in the upcoming elections. The counting of votes will take place on August 12.
